ATF-External setup with HFF on top of diaphragm pump - series 34
We all appreciate the development by Jerry Shevitz and sales effort from John Bonham 20 years ago starting the trend based on his granted perfusion “Fluid Filtration System” IPR (see PDF below). Jerry off course based his ATF system on the available diaphragm pumps of his time.

PerfuseCell, via collaboration with end-user, offer a pre-assembled ATF kits for connection to STRs or SUBs in sizes from small to large based on the revolutionizing scalable LASER guided Thalia diaphragm pump integrating scalable SepraPor Hollow-Fiber-Filter (HFF). The Thalia diaphragm pump offer full control of volume, stroke and fluid velocity, comparable to the human heart, when driven by the Clotho family of Drive Units.
The portfolio combines the scalable Thalia unified with scalable SepraPor manufactured by Meissner Corp. pre-assembled with retentate outlet design as needed, dual bag packed. E-beam irradiated, ready to install and ready for wetting/rinsing the dry stored HFF before use.
Thalia Alternating-Single-Use-Pump keep the HFF clean:
- The diaphragm Alternating-Single-Use-Pump (A-SUP) exchange back and forth broth from inside the STR / SUB through the HFF at selected velocities - many low velocity for harvest and sequentially few higher velocity pulses for HFF cleaning
- The high precision LASER sensor measure in real-time the position of the diaphragm so broth velocity and exchanged volume can be performed at high accuracy - no guessing
- Thalia exchanges any volume, within its spec, and programmable velocity from 0.1 to 10 m/sec conveyed through the HFF securing the HFF stays clean throughout the entire process - low velocity for gentle harvest and higher velocity pulses for fouling removal
- Thalia is a positive displacement pump which measure the conveyed volume at any time - no mass-flow sensor needed
