Classical “optical Density” measurement, correlating a light intensity or backscatter absorption to offline cell dry weight/cell density measurements. This is usually applied in microbial cultivations for cell density surrogate to follow online the development of the culture. Not used in cell culture but in microbial because the tested organisms typically are microbial / some algae / some fungi. Optimized for parallel multi-vessel online monitoring of cell density in small vessels and single use fermenters
