Electrical thermal control of 3 liter P-SUBs
Larger sized Heating-Support-Foot (HSF-E) that fits any of the 3 liter vessel. Able to operate with small volumes starting from few hundred ml up to >2,000 ml. The here show example use 1,200 ml water, 200 RPM, one impeller. The slot in the front of HSF allow integration of the bio-mass SUS mounted horizontal close to bottom.

IR photos show cold IR photo and warm IR photo. The P-SUBs 1.2 liter liquid Working Volume is lifted to 37°C temperature and app 18°C above surroundings. The aluminum HSF exhibit only minor gradients seen with bright yellow HSF being app 42°C. Media in even orange colour above HSF body illustrates even media temperature.
The 3 liter P-SUB mounted in green HSF-E bolted onto the polished MST-C. This setup allow perfusion cultivation with as little as 400 ml media without overheating the vessel walls. The white nylon body on the rear side houses the power socket, the protection thermostat and the round black dot being the Rotary Switch for voltage selection.
The HSF-E integrates dual each 75 watt heating elements. With 150 watt power response time for electrical heating is a 20 degrees Celsius lift in around 30 minutes. Vastly depending on the PID parameters in your PCS. One can also insert the PCS thermo couple in to HSF-E aluminium body (and not into the SUB) and let the PCS control precisely the HSF temperature. Hereby avoiding any potential overheating of the P-SUB or the cell line.
Improve thermal conductivity:
- Add some ml of Glycerine into the HSF core before adding the P-SUB
- Wrap the "naked" SUB with one or two layer of bubble foil
